How do I contact the Board of Optometry?

What does the Board oversee?
We only have jurisdiction over optometrists. If a patient takes his/her prescription somewhere else and is not happy, it is not in our jurisdiction to require anything from opticians or optical shops.
Can the Board help get refunds from an optometrist for the customer?
Fee refunds are a part of the individual doctor's office policy and not in our jurisdiction.
How do I verify status of a license?
Us the "Verify License" button from the home Page or write to 179 Summers Street, Suite 231, Charleston, WV 25301. The fee is $25.00 per verification. A list of all optometrists is available under "Optometrist List" on the Home Page. The fee for the list is $200.00.

How many hours of CE are required?
40 hours
How many hours can be obtained by correspondence?
10 hours
What is the timeframe for obtaining CE?
The Board of Optometry uses a biennial (two year) license renewal system. CE is taken during each renewal period. For example, when renewing for license period 7/1/10 - 6/30/12 you should have 40 hours of CE taken from 8/1/08 - 6/30/10. You need at least 12 hours of CE in pharmacology or therapeutics, no more than 10 hours of CE by correspondence or internet or no more than 6 hours in practice management.

No
How long are we responsible for patient records?
5 years from the date of the last visit.
What is the date of license expiration?
August 1 every other year.
What is the licensure renewal fee?
$650 dollars
