COVID 19 Update CE

Continuing Eduction
Friday, March 27th
The current two-year even-numbered CE period is from 7/1/18 – 6/30/20. The Board voted to suspend the 10-hour maximum limit on Internet or correspondence CE for this CE period only. This is due to COVID-19 and the cancellation, postponement or conversion of CE conferences to on-line this spring. This means that you may take as many hours of Internet courses as you need to complete your 43 hours of CE required by June 30, 2020.

The Drug Diversion Course is available on-line from WVAOP. You may also sign an updated 7/1/18 – 6/30/20 Drug Diversion Waiver to cover the Drug Diversion requirement mandated by the Legislature. Just remember that signing the waiver does not apply to any of your required 43 hours of CE. The Board has paid your fee to access OE Tracker and the OE Tracker app so you may check your hours recorded in OE Tracker for the current CE period. There will not be an extension of the deadline to submit your CE hours. The date is 6/30/20. Pre-approved sponsors and accreditors are the WVAOP and other state optometric associations, the AOA and its affiliates, the American Academy of Optometry, SECO, post-graduate courses offered at any accredited school or college of optometry, and course accredited by the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE).

The Board also voted to reduce the renewal fee to $300 for this renewal cycle only in recognition of the hardships suffered by optometrists. Please wait to renew your license until mid-May when you will receive a renewal notice. The deadline to renew is June 20, 2020.
